The mission of the Kalona Public Library is to provide the community a pleasant and helpful environment with a diversity of materials to stimulate imagination and encourage lifelong learning.

As a library volunteer you will have an opportunity to connect with your community, provide valuable services, meet new people and expand your library knowledge and skills.

 

How to Volunteer

The Kalona Public Library has been at the heart of our community since 1934. With you generous support, KPL will continue to fulfill its mission in helping out community evolve, adapt, and thrive for generations to come. The library welcomes the gift of time from qualified volunteers (ages 12 and older) and there are many ways to get involved!

Volunteer Opportunities

  • Administrative/Clerical Assistance
  • Assist with cleaning books, processing library materials, processing donated materials
  • Communications: newsletter, photography, outreach and community events
  • Library displays and bullentin boards
  • Shelf reading, shelving and moving books
  • Technology support and assistance for patrons and community members
  • And so much more!

 

Youth Opportunities

Youth volunteers (ages 12-18) play an important role at the Kalona Public Library. With parental/guardian permission, youth are allowed to volunteer up to one hour before the library closing time Monday-Saturday. 

Collection Assistant

Assist with cleaning books, DVDs and CDs; shelf reading and management; assist with processing library materials

Communication Team

Photography; graphic design; assist with library and community events; library displays and bullentin boards; social media assistance

Program Assistant

Assist with a variety of activities for story times, school early-out activities, summer reading programs, adult programs, and community programs

Technology Team (14+)

As a technology tutor assist patrons and community members with library computers, laptops and personal electronic devices; provide tech support during library programs and events
