Library Cards

A free library card is available to all Kalona, Riverside, and rural Washington County residents (ages five and up), and also to persons living within the service area of any Iowa library approved through the Open Access Program. For further information regarding this program, please stop by the Kalona Public Library or call (319)-656-3501.

REQUIREMENTS

To register for a library card, you need a photo identification and proof of current residential address. A post office box is not sufficient. Mail may be used as proof of address if it has been postmarked within two weeks of the current date.

Children who fit the residence requirements and are at least 5 years old are eligible for a library card. The signature of a parent or guardian is required for children under age 14. The parent or guardian is held responsible for a child's selection and return of materials, as well as any fees or charges on the child's card.

Persons age 14 and up who are not accompanied by a parent need to have photo identification (school ID or driver's permit/license) and address verification (mail recently sent to the child is acceptable).

Persons without a permanent address in the Kalona area and who will be here less than three months are eligible for temporary cards. Applicants for a temporary library card must provide proof of local residence. Temporary borrowers may only have 2 items checked out at a time.

 LOST OR STOLEN CARDS

Lost or stolen cards may be replaced after showing identification. The replacement fee for a lost or stolen card is $1.50
